Interest Is Calculated on the Remaining Unpaid Debtlvportals.lv·16 October 2026·LV·Law of obligations↗

In an LV portal Q&A, a deputy of the Sworn Bailiffs' Council addresses inconsistent bailiff practice in calculating the 6% statutory interest awarded by courts once a debtor has paid part of the debt. The Council and the Justice Ministry take the position that accruing interest should shrink in step with the shrinking unpaid principal, since interest is owed only on the outstanding balance. New protection against lawsuits in Russiasorainen.com·15 October 2026·LV·Arbitration & mediation·Legislation↗

The article explains a new EU anti-suit injunction mechanism, introduced by Regulation 2026/506, letting EU member state courts order a claimant to stop or not start proceedings in Russian courts against sanctioned persons. A later Regulation 2026/1848 extended the tool, adding the option to seek non-recognition of Russian court judgments elsewhere. It targets Russian Arbitrazh Procedure Code rules that let sanctioned parties sue in Russian courts even where a foreign court or arbitration clause applies.
